Ben Head - Comedian - Arts & Culture

Why do some comedians choose to be clean instead of dirty? What is it like to crush a comedy set one day, only to have the exact same set bomb the next time you perform? What is it like to work with musicians who BLOW UP partly because of your work with them?

In this episode, our friend, Benjamin Head answers all these questions and more. Jeremy and Ben went to university together, and worked on many creative projects during that time.

Ben brings a great perspective on why art is important, and shares some fantastic tips on how to make everyday an adventure.

Ben also likes black and white WAY too much. Supposedly it makes everything more epic.

BEN'S PRACTICAL TIP

Every time you create something, you are having an adventure. And when you create, you make space for others to find adventure through your own.

Also, surround yourself with people who are driven and passionate - they will lead you towards adventure!

Ben - The Last Bison - Arts and Culture

Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.

Okay, that saying doesn't really apply, but we are talking with a real rockstar on this episode of the podcast.

Ben has a passion for playing music—which comes as no surprise if you’ve seen his band The Last Bison play. Hot diggity!

On this episode, Ben walks us through the journey he has been on with The Last Bison—from the crazy idea of starting a band to later climbing the charts.

Ben has the attitude of “just being along for the ride" which seems to have played a part in his band’s success. This easy-going attitude was on display when he was in da club with Lil' Wayne sipping Patron and witnessed Paris Hilton have the door slammed in her face because she wasn’t on the guest list. (We only scratched the surface of the wild stories Ben could tell us...)

Ben has finding adventure in the everyday down to a science. Oh well… Guess our podcast can’t help him.

BEN'S PRACTICAL TIP:

View every Day like it's the best day ever

Luke - Mbuntu Lifestyle - Commerce and Entrepreneurship

Luke Willms has some great insights on how to mix business with adventure. He is the founder and director of MBUNTU Lifestyle. Here’s an overview of what they do:

“MBUNTU Lifestyle is a brand built on the East African philosophy, Mbuntu – meaning “I am a product of the people who surround me” or, “I am because we are.” Co-Founders, Luke and Mark Willms developed the brand after years of traveling to and from East Africa, accumulating years in time spent in Uganda, Kenya and Zimbabwe — largely due to their father’s research surrounding the HIV/AIDS pandemic through the early 90’s and the founding the Salama SHIELD Foundation (SSF) in 1992. Ultimately, Mbuntu is a company that promotes going beyond one’s domestic network to collaborate, partner, invest and innovate.”

For Luke, starting MBUNTU has been a serious learning curve, demanding lots of creativity. He likens starting this business to painting a picture or writing a song, in that it never turns out the way you first intended it.

Our conversation with Luke is chock-full of tips and stories for starting a business committed to challenging the status quo. Coffee, travel, art, apparel: all things that have been done before and all things that MBUNTU is working to do differently.

LUKE'S PRACTICAL TIP:
